The Volunteer Club
The Volunteer Club is an essential component of the experiential program at the English Language Program. In line with our motto that our students should “live the language, not just learn it”, the Volunteer Club offers students another venue where they can practice their English outside of the classroom with other international students and Canadians, while making a positive change in the Toronto community. Students who are members of the Volunteer Club are involved in a number of activities with different charities and non-profit organizations.
A few volunteer events that have taken place recently:
The Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Walk for a Cure
Students provided moral support to the participants of the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Walk for a Cure.
The Toronto Taste
Students volunteered at the Toronto Taste, organised by Second Harvest, which serves food to homeless shelters. Students were serving food while interacting with Canadians and practicing their English.
The ESL Spell
Our students contributed greatly to the ESL Spell, a spelling bee organised by the Toronto Star. Our students were able to assist students they could relate to by volunteering in this event. The students assisted in the organization of this event, handing out snacks, giving directions, and making posters.
